The other night Mady wanted a story read to her. MyLeigh had helped her pick this book up at the library and told her she would read it to her. Mady also wanted Daddy to read too. Between MyLeigh and Nate, they had a pretty good story going. They each took a part and both of them did the voices that went along with it. Jordan even got his 20 mins of reading done so he could listen to the funny story. Have I mentioned that my kids love to read? I am glad it is not something that is a "chore" for them. It is never a fight to get them to read, or for me to read them a story. Actually, it is a fight to get them to turn their lamps off at night and stop reading! Jordan is frustrated with being in the 1st grade and having to learn to read. He doesn't seem to realize that the 2 older kids had to learn to. He just remembers them being able to read. He gets frustrated when he has to sound a word out and looses his patients when I don't tell him the word. But I know before to long, he too, will be drowning himself in a good book.

I hope you all remember how important reading is. It will open up so many avenues for you. It is a basis for your schoolwork. Having a love of reading will carry you far. "knowledge is power" and knowledge can come from many ways, one of them being reading and studying a certain subject. Knowledge is one thing we get to take with us when we leave this life and I hope you take every opportunity given to you to gain all you can!

When you find out how to get a first grader to enjoy reading, let me know.
My kids are the same...it seems to hit them around the second grade when they start to read Harry Potter and those types of books. I'm glad they are readers because I never was.
