A Great Read
Our family has always had the focus of reading the Book of Mormon. When the kids were little Nate and I would read out loud while they played on the floor. I would also read to them out of the Book of Mormon stories book. As our family has grown and grown up, kids have been able to start reading out loud with us. This has usually started in 1st grade. It is still hard for them to follow along at this age, but they are able to read their assigned verses. Jordan for along time as just sat with me and listened while others read. I always think that his mind is wandering but he is just like MyLeigh and constantly stopping us and asking questions. The last couple of weeks he has finally agreed to read out loud and he is doing so good! The other night he even managed to read a full column.
I do shrug off some of the reactions my kids have to the things that keep them interested in this book and try to teach them that "there is more to it than that". But man, who doesn't want to read about arms getting cut off, someone getting scalped, the Lord TELLING Nephi to kill Laban, a 16 year old commanding an Army, a people that bury their weapons and choose NOT to fight, prison walls falling down around missionaries and Samuel, who doesn't get hit by an arrow? We have gone these rounds over the last couple of years with our reading. And the kids want to be the one "who reads that part". Something that hasn't come up until this go around is some of the names, to be exact....Nimrod and Moron. Please forgive my children for their giggles. They are just kids.
I myself am loving reading the end of the Book of Mormon with my family as I am also starting over with the Sunday School reading.
